I can’t tell you the exact time that this obsession started, at least as far back as high school French class. Maybe even before that. But it’s true. I am
obsessed with the Eiffel Tower. I hadn’t really thought about it. It was my mother who pointed this out to me. I had to write a blog post about my office space, which is messy and generic to be kind and nothing worth taking a pciture of and posting online for everyone to see. So I did what any self-respecting writer would do: I found a picture of a fabulous home office space on the Web and posted it like it was my office.
Now don’t get your panties in a wad, I came clean about the office space, even took a picture of my real desk. But as I was telling my mom about the post and my awesome, please-let-it-be-mine-someday office picture that I had found, she pointed out to me that the dream office had a picture of the Eiffel Tower in it.And then as moms often do, she pointed out that I have always loved the Eiffel Tower.
Huh, I’d never really thought about it, but she’s right. Even more proof…scrolling through my sidebar pictures here on my site, at least three of them feature the Parisian landmark.
Two of my favorite romantic comedies are set mostly in France–Sabrina and French Kiss. Three if you count the remake of Sabrina as well. My wallpaper on my phone and for my laptop are both pictures of the great tower.
And the latest is my birthday present, already ordered. I can’t wait. A sterling pendant with diamond and sapphires (my birthstone) of…you guessed it.
I’ve never seen the Tower, never been to France, barely even made it out of the US of A. But maybe one day I will. Until then…I’m still surrounded by it’s beauty.
Is there a special monument that speaks to you? Tell me about it. I’d love to hear from you.
