CHOSEN by Denise Grover Swank

OM…

(And Amie takes a deep breath) What a FABULOUS book! Emma has been on the run with her five year old son, Jake, for three years, trying to stay ahead of the “Bad Men” as Jake calls them. Emma has no idea why they are after her, just that they are. (I don’t suppose it’s feasible to question men in black SUVs when they are shooting at you.) The years have changed Emma, her one goal now is protecting her son. Until she meets Will.

Ex-military with a dishonorable discharge after his name, Will has been hired by the other faction to find Emma and bring her in alive. (Not a spoiler)  But as Emma reluctantly joins forces with Will things begin to change. Jake assures her that they can trust Will, but Emma is hesitant. It’s been a long time since she’s been able to trust anyone other than herself–and Jake’s premonitions. And that’s all I can tell you about the story without blowing all the twist, turns, surprises, and bombs that go off as the pages turn.

CHOSEN is a roller-coaster ride of a story. It’s brilliantly written, amazingly complex and yet simple in its message and style.  Swank leaves the reader asking questions throughout the book, questions that create a page-turning story as the answers and even more questions are uncovered.

Rarely do I run across a book that leaves me in such a state that I can’t read anything else for a while. CHOSEN is that kind of book. It grabs you by the throat and won’t let go until the last page is read.

This book should come with a warning–call for take-out, higher a sitter, and turn off your phone. You don’t want to miss this!

Attention readers–this is a giveaway post. Stop by    Denise’s tour page  and leave a comment to be entered to win an Amazon gift card.

Lilly Gayle and something new…

No, that’s not the title of her book. This blog is a guest post with Lilly Gayle and her first release, Slightly Tarnished, and “something new” called Wholesale Husband.

But first Lilly wants to share some words of wisdom and, of course, I agreed. So sit up and pay attention, there maybe a quiz at the end. (just kidding <g>)

The Dangers of Social Media

Social networking can be a great promotional tool for writers. By using social media sites like Blogger, Facebook, and MySpace, authors can post blogs, announce new releases, and add buy links. Authors can make “friends” with readers and interact with other writers.

My first foray into the social media frenzy was in 2006. I wasn’t published then, but my daughter had just gotten married to a soldier and they were living in Germany. She wanted us to stay connected and uploading pictures to a website is much faster than sending email attachments. She sent pictures of Germany, and I posted pictures of home so she could still feel a part of everything that was going on here in the states.

Then in 2007, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I posted chemo pictures and surgery updates so my daughter could stay abreast of my treatments. I also used the MySpace blog to write about my thoughts and feelings. It was cathartic and it helped me stay sane.

When I was first diagnosed, I prayed not just to survive, but to survive with dignity. I didn’t want to break down or appear weak. I told anyone who asked I was doing fine, but on my blog, I posted the brutal truth. I was afraid. I never asked “why me,” but that didn’t stop me from getting depressed.

On the day my hair started falling out, I asked my husband to shave my head. That same evening, I got an email from someone I thought was a friend. Basically, she told me she thought I was self-absorbed and a liar and that she didn’t want to be my friend any more.

Seriously? I hadn’t gotten a letter like that since 5th grade. But I was an emotional wreck, no matter how brave a face I put on. So, I blogged about it. I didn’t name her, but someone very dear to me who was also friends with that person knew who I was talking about because that person sent her a copy of the email. And the person dear to my heart accused me of “airing” my dirty laundry in public and trying to “force” her to choose between me and the other person. She did choose. And it wasn’t me.

In hindsight, maybe I shouldn’t have posted something so personal. At the time, I was hurt, shocked, confused and—bald. I was in the middle of chemo and felt like crap. And I wanted someone to understand how it felt to be dumped on during one of the worst times of my life. It seemed easier to blog than talk to people.

Fast forward to 2010. My first book was published and Facebook is the new MySpace. So, I set up an author page on Facebook under my pen name. I also set up a fan page. I still maintained a Facebook page under my real name for exchanging pictures with my daughter, since she no longer used MySpace. I also started a blog on Blogger. But promoting a book requires more than Blogger and Facebook. So, I got a Twitter and Good Reads account.

Good Reads seems more geared toward readers, but I post reviews and make sure my books are available. I like Facebook better. I understand it. When someone posts something on FB, comments and replies show up under the original post. Everything seems to follow a “thread” and conversations are easy to follow. Not so on Twitter.

Comments show up in response to something someone else posted, but I can’t find the original comment or follow the thread. Most of the time, I have no clue what people are talking about. But a writer friend told me some readers hate the constant promo bombardment from writers and prefer when they interact. So, I decided to interact when I saw a comment someone posted on Twitter about not understanding women who’d rather have a bad man than no man at all. It seemed like a good conversation starter. So, underneath that, I posted: Did you ever want to tell a friend her new bf is a looser who looks enough like her ex to raise red flags?

Nothing specific. But my comment didn’t show up under the original post. It showed up by itself—as if I’d just randomly bashed someone. And when I checked my email, I found a reply on Facebook from a writer friend who said something about following mom’s advice and biting your tongue. I replied with something along the lines of “But did she have to move him in? And is handy man even a real job?” I hit

reply. And then suddenly realized my post was on Facebook. Not twitter. I forgot the two were connected!

In reality, the woman is just an acquaintance. I run into her maybe twice a year and she always has a new man in her life—men who are interchangeable. Long, greasy hair. Wife beater. Grungy. And the worse he treats her, the more in love she is. She doesn’t have a Twitter account but she might have a Facebook page. She’s not my “friend” on Facebook but six degrees of separation and all that, she could see my post. And I wouldn’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings.

As I was contemplating what to do about my faux pas, my brother called. He saw the post on FB and thought I was talking about my best friend’s new boyfriend, who coincidentally does look a bit like her ex-husband.

Obviously, my friend knows her boyfriend isn’t a handy man, and he’s not living in her house, but how many other people would see my post and make the same wrong assumption my brother did? And that could hurt my best friend.

I felt so stupid. And naïve!

I deleted the Facebook post. Then I spent a good fifteen minutes trying to find the freaking post on Twitter. It took some doing, but I found it. By then, there were so many new posts on Twitter that my comment was nowhere near the original comment I thought I was replying to.

Everyone knows not post their home address on social media sites and then announce they’re going to Europe for two weeks. And who’d be stupid enough to gripe about the boss if the boss is a Facebook friend? Some things are obvious. Some aren’t. So, the best advice is not to post anything on the internet if there is even one person on the planet you wouldn’t want seeing it.

And yet, here I am posting my story on a blog…where anyone can see it. So, just consider this a reminder of the unexpected dangers of social networking.

Sad but true, Lilly.

And now for the things we want to repost, splatter on Twitter, and share on Facebook–Lilly’s spectacular covers and amazing blurbs!!

Up first–Slightly Tarnished.

Victorian romance laced with danger.

When a brooding English earl with a SLIGHTLY TARNISHED reputation marries his dead wife’s American cousin to save her from her uncle’s vengeful schemes, the sea captain’s daughter with a taste for adventure sparks desires he thought long dead.

Nicole Keller has always been headstrong and independent, but after a failed business venture and a sinking ship take her father, her home, and her childhood sweetheart, Nikki must support herself and her mother. But moving to England and marrying Chadwick Masters, Earl of Gilchrest isn’t what she has in mind. And falling in love with the mysterious earl could endanger both their lives.

And now for the something new. Coming soon–September 28th to be exact–Wholesale Husband

Wholesale Husband-Coming soon from The Wild Rose Press~

She needs his name. He needs her money. But can a rich New York socialite and a poor Irish immigrant find true love in the gilded age?

Betrayed by her fiancé and heart sick over her father’s death, Clarissa Burdick is further devastated when she learns she can’t inherit her father’s company—the company she loves—until she’s twenty-five or married. And Clarissa is neither. So she sets out to find a husband strong enough to protect her from her uncle’s thugs, too uneducated to run the company himself, and poor enough to marry a woman in name only.  But Irish immigrant Devin Flannery is smarter than he seems and more educated than Clarissa expects.  Her Wholesale Husband soon proves a greater risk to her heart than her company.

Meet Lilly–

Rock Star’s Girl

Emily Watts is about as average as an LA girl can be. She works, she hangs out with her friends, and she goes out on the weekends. But suddenly her life is turned on its ear when she becomes a media sensation overnight–literally. Dating should never be this hazardous, but it certainly becomes something to avoid as Emily gets caught in the media crossfire between her new rock star boyfriend and her good male friend who also happens to be a member of an up-and-coming band.

As the men start to manipulate her life, Emily has to get smart and learn a few tricks of her own in order to survive (and to protect her business). But life’s lessons are hard learned as Emily struggles to keep her web business afloat, her freelance projects viable, and her personal life in check.

Rock Star’s Girl is a crazy roller coaster of a ride of Emily’s life–personal and otherwise. Ms. Kristen does a remarkable job giving us candid insight of the social media frenzy that can start overnight and end just as suddenly. Emily is beautiful, smart, and savvy, but could be any one of us–ordinary girl turned web sensation all by association. But my favorite part is Emily herself, who suffers through verbal abuse from strangers, loss of friends and freedom, and somehow manages to get her life back on track with dignity and grace. Kudos to you, Emily, for being the girl we all want to be!

BIO:

J.F. Kristin (Jennifer) has been writing since the day she picked up a navy blue Crayola as a toddler and began scribbling on her parents’ freshly painted white walls. When not writing novels, Jennifer writes about both writing and ecommerce, and previously spent a number of years as a freelance promotional writer and web designer for musicians. In the early days of the Web, she ran the Society for Preventing Parents from Naming Their Children Jennifer (SPPNTCJ), a tongue-in-cheek web site that welcomed millions of visitors during its run, received coverage from print, broadcast, and online media, was included in an academic textbook, and was studied on a college course. Jennifer is currently at work on her second novel.

Scorcher Blog Tour Final Week–The Perfect Hero by Darlene Fredette

Welcome to part four of my blog post on the Scorcher Blog Tour.

Part 1:

Part 2:
http://arialburnz.wordpress.com/

Part 3:
http://www.authorsarahgrimm.blogspot.com/

Thank you, Amie, for hosting me on your site!

Things are heating up a little now. These scorcher ladies are being very, very wicked! Sarah is caressing the leg of her hero’s jeans. AJ has just pulled her hero’s belt buckle from his jeans. Amie just popped the button on the waist band of her hero’s jeans, and Lisa is playing with the zipper on her hero’s jeans! I’d have to say these ladies like a hero in jeans. And just when you think it couldn’t go any further…Arial’s hero’s black dress pants have fallen to his knees! (I won’t even go into her obsession with kilts!)

What are these hot heroes wearing on their feet? Well it’s hard to tell with all the drooping pants, but I think that’s work boots I see on AJ’s hero.  Arial’s hero is kicking off his black dress shoes. Amie and Sarah are helping their heroes out of cowboy boots. I’m not sure what type of boots Lisa’s hero is wearing because his jeans are draped around his ankles.

Wow! These ladies waste no time! Heavy panting has begun.

AJ and Sarah’s heroes are wearing nothing but their boxer briefs, and AJ can’t take her eyes off her hero’s package! Amie’s hero is looking smoking hot in his tightie whities. A sudden gasp fills the room…Arial’s hero is commando! As our eyes travel to the back corner of the room, it’s no surprise what we see next. I knew there was a pattern taking shape here…bald, clean shave, bare chest, and you guess it…Lisa’s hero is wearing absolutely nothing.

What body part should we check out next? I know what you are all thinking and you should all be ashamed of yourselves. Get your minds out of the gutter! This is a PG rated blog post. You didn’t really think I’d go THERE next!

We’re playing this one safe and checking out our hero’s butt. Amie likes her hero’s fine butt, while AJ’s hero has a tight butt.  Sarah’s hero has a firm butt, Lisa’s hero’s butt is sculpted, and Arial’s hero has a scrumptious butt. Gotta love those butts!

The mood has definitely changed in the room. The scorcher ladies have a mischievous look in their eyes. The ladies are trying to pull me toward the dark side.

Shoot, too bad ladies, it’s time to move on. If you want to read the next instalment, go to Lisa’s blog (
http://www.lisasanchezromanceauthor.com/
). BUT before you go, answer my question below. AND don’t forget to comment on all of my six instalments of The Perfect Hero for a chance to win a PDF copy of Keeping Secrets. You MUST answer all six questions from each instalment to have your name included in the draw. The winner will then move on to the grand prize drawing of a $30 Amazon Gift Card.

Question 4: What type of pants and shoes do you like your hero dressed in? Do you prefer boxers, briefs…or nothing at all covering his cute butt?

Scorcher Blog Tour Week4–Lisa Sanchez

Woohoo! You’ve made it to the last stop! Props and mad love to you!! Mwah!

If, by chance, this is your first stop, you’ll want to stop by my blog-
http://www.lisasanchezromanceauthor.com
to start this week’s tour. We’ve been talking about things that get your motor revvin’ hot, things that turn us, as readers on. You won’t want to miss!

As I mentioned in my original post, music can play an integral part in the wooing process. If you’re on a date with that special someone it can help set the mood. Think back to some of your favorite flicks. How many times have you seen the sexually frustrated hero dim the lights in his apartment, strip down and turn on some mood music? It’s standard fare in the game of love.

For me, music plays an important part in romance long before I get anywhere near the bedroom. I associate music with the people I love. Especially when that love is new, and exciting and full of fire. It’s no surprise, then, given my predilection to associate music with relationships, that Hally and Nick share a love for a certain romantic song. Here’s a quick peek:

Her smile was infectious, and Nick couldn’t help but return one of his own. Looked like their afternoon was off to a good start.

Nick placed the key into the ignition and Journey’s “Faithfully” blared throughout the vehicle as the truck roared to life. “Sorry about that,” he said sheepishly after cranking the volume down to a respectable level.

Princess shook her head, leaned across the seat, and cranked the volume back up. “Don’t be sorry. I love Journey, and I love this song. As far as I’m concerned, the louder the better.” She treated him to a flirtatious grin, and his heart swelled. She liked old-school rock, was a mean-ass cook, and a vixen between the sheets. Shit. He’d found the perfect woman.

How about you? Do certain songs help you get in the mood for love? Do you associate certain music with your significant other? Weigh in with a comment!

Leave a comment on this blog, as well as the other five blogs on the Scorcher Tour to be entered to win a free PDF copy of my erotic suspense, Obsessed. The winner’s name will then be forwarded into a final drawing at the end of the tour for a chance to win a $30 Amazon gift certificate.

Obessed~blurb The victim of both a brutal attempted rape and now a serial stalking, Halley Davis is broken, and desperate to glue the shattered pieces of her life back together. Tormented by a psychopath and battling a heavy dose of anxiety, sex and dating are the last things on Halley’s anxiety-ridden mind. That is, until she meets the man who rescued her from the hands of a would-be rapist. With a body made for sin, a wicked, sexy tattoo and an aura that screams “badass,” her rescuer not only calms the storm of terror raging inside her mind, he ignites a passion within her she’s never known before.

Tired of using meaningless sex to drown out the horrors of his past, Nick Ackart has sworn off women. In fact, if women were classified as meat, his ass is Vegan. Despite his determination to remain unattached, Nick is unable to stay away from the emerald-eyed beauty he rescued from a sadistic pervert. Immersed in a tangled web of sexual desire and deep emotion he was certain was long dead, he vows to protect Halley from the monster hounding her, even though he stands to lose his heart in the process.

Intimacy and Other Things Part I

Whoo—hoo! It’s my turn at the Scorcher Blog Tour…what to talk about, what…to…talk…about…?Got it—Sex.

Now everyone who doesn’t read romance is positive that all romances are all filled with heaving bosoms, enlarged members, and ahem…all sorts of sweaty, sweaty sex. And I guess they are to a certain extent. But there’s a lot more that goes into those scenes than the average person realizes.

As you know there are a lot of different sexuality levels in romance novels. There are sweet romances, sexy, spicy, hot, and erotica (which is a nice way of saying “set the sheets on fire”). And these are just a few of the tags editors and publishers give them.

But they all have one thing in common—they all support the stages of intimacy.

Wait a minute…there are stages? Yep. There are 12 of them. Or at least that’s what I’ve been taught. But when I started doing a little research for this blog I came across all sorts of numbers—8, 10, 14, and the ever popular 12. I’m going to talk about the 12.

12 stages, that seems like a lot, and most people would say, “I don’t remember that many steps when I was dating.” Oh, they were there, you just may not have recognized them for what they were. See, it takes a lot more than a pretty smile and a squirt of Binaca to get someone to trust another person enough to share the most intimate of pleasures with them. But enough of that, you want to know what the stages are, dontcha?

Well, you’ll have to go to Lisa’s blog to find out! (I know I’m evil. But this is a blog tour, so get goin’)

Skyrockets Blog Hop

Welcome to the Sky Rockets In Flight Blog Hop Delight!

What a fun Contest and super easy to win! All you have to do is sign up to follow my blog and you’re entered! The prize you ask? An e-copy of my new book, Brodie’s Bride. Here’ a sneak peek! :)

Blurb–
Waking up next to a beautiful golden-haired stranger isn’t the worst thing that has ever happened to Brodie Harper, but staying in a fake marriage in order to gain a new construction contract could very well be.

Savanna Morgan just wanted a way out of an engagement to a man she didn’t love. Marrying Brodie seemed liked the perfect answer at the time. Less perfect the next morning when she finds herself disowned by her father and flat broke. Now she must make it through the weekend. Monday they can get it all annulled and forget it ever happened.

The real problem may be keeping their hands off each other until then.

Excerpt—
“On Monday, after our appointment, you’re leaving.”
“I have to go home,” she said quietly, turning away from him to stare into the postage-stamp sized back yard.
“But we have an agreement for the weekend. I think we should have some ground rules.”
“Good idea.” Savanna clapped her hands, then rubbed them together as if she were ready to get down to business. “Like what?”
“We only have two working bedrooms here,” Brodie said. “Mine and Nan’s. Do you mind sharing a room with me?”
Her pupils dilated, and he knew she was thinking about the scarlet room they had shared last night.
“My room has two beds,” he continued. “We can be like Lucy and Ricky.”
She smiled. “If it was good enough for the Ricardos, I’m sure I can handle it for a few days.”
“We may not so lucky at the Sullivan’s.”
Sobering, she nodded. “If there’s only one bed there, we can just take turns sleeping in it.”
“Fair enough.” Brodie said. “Now, as a married couple—especially at the ranch—we’ll be expected to act like a married couple.”
“Okay. But only around others. When we’re alone, we can act like we’re not married.”
“Correct. But sometimes…” He took a step closer to where she leaned against the porch railing. “Sometimes married people hold hands.”
He reached out and took her fingers into his own. Her skin was velvet soft and smelled so sweet, like the mountains after a rain.
“I—I don’t have a problem with that.”
“Sometimes married couples put their arms around each other.” He placed her hands behind his neck, then slid his arms around her waist.
“That’s okay,” she whispered. He watched as she swallowed hard.
“And sometimes married people kiss. Just a peck here and a peck there. Are you going to have a problem with that?”
“Huh-uh.” She shook her head.
“Maybe we should practice,” he rasped, bending his head close to hers.
“Maybe,” she repeated before he brushed his lips across hers once, then twice.
His intent had been the small, nearly chaste kiss of old married couple, but once he got close to Savanna, once he could smell her sweetness and taste her heady essence, he couldn’t stop himself.
He pulled her close to him, gathering handfuls of her tank top, securing her to him. Over and over he slanted his mouth across hers. Over and over, deeper and deeper, until her whimper brought him back.
He released her, his breath rasping in and out of his lungs in hard painful gasps.
She grasped the edge of the porch railing, looking as disturbed as he felt.
With demonstrations like that, they may not ever convince Blair and Nan their marriage was an accidental twist of fate, but they would surely convince Red Sullivan their passion was for real.
Brodie ran his fingers through his hair, just one more gesture to keep from reaching for Savanna again.
“There,” he managed to croak. “That wasn’t so bad, now was it?”

One lucky winner will be drawn at the end of the contest. So sign up and cross your fingers!
